Hello everyone! Today Today I thought I’d talk about something a little different – responding to an invitation.
One of my pet peeves is when you invite someone and they don’t RSVP. Obviously this means that most of the time no response is a sign that they will not be attending, but it’s still polite to let them know that you won’t be available for the event.
On the other hand, I’ve had times over the years where I’ve hosted birthday parties for the kids in which I’ve had to pay per child for activities, food, and party favors – and I’ve had extra kids show up whose parents did not send an RSVP. The more the merrier, but it’s one of those circumstances that a head’s up would be much appreciated.
Perhaps what frustrates me more than anything else though is when someone RSVP’s and says that they will be attending, and then fail to show up as expected. Of course there are a few emergency situations that would make this an exception, but for the most part its honestly down right rude. Someone has prepared enough food, drinks, silverware, guest favors, etc. just for you, and if you back out on your words that person is left with the extra expenses and disappointment.
What is “RSVP” anyways?
Now, to be completely honest I wasn’t even sure what the word “RSVP” stood for until a little while ago when I looked it up online.
RSVP stands for the French words répondez, s’il vous plaît, which simply means: please reply.
So why should you always RSVP?
It’s simple. It means that you care about the person hosting the event as well as the event itself.
In the hustle and bustle of today’s busy schedules it’s not expected for everyone to be able to attend every event that you’re invited to, but event if you can’t make it, let them know. Chances are you’ll be invited to more frequently if you show some respect and RSVP.
What are your thoughts on sending a response to each invite you recieve?
