Life is made up of a collection of our memories. I know that sounds really philosophical, but it’s true. Think about it. Whether you collect items that remind you of a specific date, have photo albums filled with family photos, or keep a journal of your day-to-day activities, memories are what make your life special.
I am one of those people who take photos of special moments or events to remember them by. When I look at a picture I suddenly find myself back in that memory for a brief period of time. Many of the photos I have are from big celebrations like birthdays or holidays, but some of my favorite photos are from times when I caught a glimpse of my day-to-day ordinary life – a normal day that made a special memory.
All who have followed me on here probably know that I believe you should make memories daily. Each day should have a moment to add to your life’s collection. Each day there should be a little piece that is celebrated…but how? When life is rolling around in 10 directions at once how do you make the most of the little moments? It’s not necessarily easy, but I’ve come up with 5 different things you can do daily to make each day a little more memorable:
5 Steps to Make Each Day More Memorable:
Write down a list of what needs to be done for the day. I’ve found that consistently writing a list with the top 5 or so things that I need to get done for the day not only keeps me more organized and productive, but it also helps me recall the day in better detail. Instead of just having another day blur by it helps me find clarity in some way.
Make sure you do something with someone else. This really isn’t as hard as it sounds. It doesn’t mean that you need to pencil in time for a mani/pedi or a lunch date every day, but it means that you need to take a little time and do anything that involves someone other than yourself. Maybe it means giving your great Aunt that phone call that you’ve been putting off, or reading a book with your children. If we spend the entire day working or only focusing on ourselves, how can we make memories with others?
Take a break for you. Contrary to the prior statement, taking a break for yourself is also a great way to make a memory. Remember that time you snuck out of the house and drove to the beach to go for a walk in the sand...just because you could? I do, because I took a break out of the ordinary and made that single day extraordinary. Sometimes I’ll sit and read a book or take a leisurely bath and sip on some Bigelow Tea. Consciously make decisions. I don’t know about you, but often times now-a-days I feel like I’m on autopilot. I’ll go through the day checking things off and doing things because I feel like I’m supposed to. What happens if we think about each choice we make during the day? What if you chose something different? What kinds of new memories could you create?
Reflect at the end of the day. This is just as important as everything above. Reflecting allows our brain to process everything and when it processes everything it helps is remember it all – and helps keep our lives balanced.
How do you make each day a little more memorable?

I def feel like when I sit and have a cup of tea that’s my “me time.” I have one on the couch every night after I’ve put my three children to bed. It’s a great way to wind down. I’m 8 months pregnant so it’s tough to stop and relax during the day because I’m always chasing after my kids, but pausing at night has really helped. Thanks for sharing your tips! #client
3 and 1 on the way! Sounds like there are lots of fun memories to be made in your home. <3
